IACHE , the International Association of Chaplains in Higher Education is the international professional association for chaplains in higher education. It is a multifaith association.
An International HE Chaplaincy Committee was established as the international planning committee for the first Global University Chaplains’ Conference held in Vancouver in 2000.
In planning towards the second Global University Chaplains’ Conference in Brisbane 2004, a new international consultative committee was formed. This committee widened its brief and also began to work towards developing an international association.
In preparation for the Global Conference in 2008, the International Higher Education Chaplaincy Committee worked on a constitution for an International HE Chaplaincy Association. The members of the committee were representatives nominated by national and regional Chaplaincy Associations including a Jewish and a Muslim representative. IACHE was formed at the General Assembly in Tampere in Finland in 2008
The role of IACHE is to work with a host country in planning the Global Conference, IACHE receives bids for hosting a Global Conference, selects the host country/association and supports the planning for each conference. IACHE is also currently working on A Model Code of Ethics for chaplains

IACHE Blessing used in the Opening Ceremony
IACHE Blessing to Begin
This is the moment when we claim our place in the grand sweep of life.
Today, this hour, minute, second of all of the shifting sands and tidal waves of life,
We come together in this holy place, Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.
If this is the moment to claim our place, as Chaplains, Religious Life Professionals, hosts of big questions, pressers of worthy dreams for those we serve, what claims us
this day?
What claim is on us as we dig for hidden treasure in these days…the treasure of one another, the wisdom, the defeat, the daring?
What claim extends to us from the institutions we serve, the light that longs to emerge from the dark to shatter all that binds us?
What word of all words begs to be spoken? What longing presses on the heart to be born? What memory leaves us speechless for its beauty? What student sings through the dawn of our days and asks us to join the grand chorale?
Blessed be, my friends, my fellow journeyers, my holy venturers to new vistas! Blessed be as we travel together in this uncommon work of shaping minds, hearts, spirits for such a time as this.
May we be guided by Truth, met by the Holiness, held in love, enlivened and emboldened by curiosity.
May we grace this space with generosity and genius. And now let us hold out our hands, ready to receive all that these moments generously offer!
Blessed be! AMEN
